The WebCAPE assessment, provided by Emmersion, is an adaptive language proficiency test used to evaluate a test-taker’s reading and grammar skills. Follow these instructions to successfully complete your assessment and troubleshoot potential issues.

Getting Started & Taking the Assessment

  1. Sign into Emmersion

    • Many schools provide their students with a link to access their assessment. Students that click on this link will either be asked to create a profile, or sign into a profile if they already have one. 

    • Some schools choose to send email invitations to their students. If this is the case, you will receive an email invitation with a link to register or sign in. This link becomes inactive after you have registered.

    • Once your Emmersion profile is active (or if you already have a profile), you can sign in to your account here.

    • If you navigate away from the assessment or wish to return later, sign in through the provided link.

    • If you require a password reset, you can click ‘Forgot Password’.

  2. Accessing Your Assessment

    • After signing in, you will see your assigned assessments.

    • Click ‘TAKE TEST’ to begin.

    • You may be asked to complete a Language Background Survey.

    • Read the assessment requirements carefully, then click ‘Continue’ and fill in the requested information.

    • Once the questionnaire is completed, you will be prompted to begin the test.

    • Click ‘Begin Test’ when you are ready.

  3. Taking the Assessment

    • Each question will include instructions; read them carefully before answering.

    • You cannot return to a question once you have submitted an answer.

    • Select the best possible answer as you progress.

    • The assessment is adaptive, meaning the difficulty level will adjust based on your performance.

    • Once you complete the assessment, your results will be available to your test provider.

    • If permitted by your institution, you will be prompted to view your results.

Best Practices for a Smooth Experience

  • Ensure your internet connection is stable

  • Ensure your internet browser is updated and compatible.

  • Allow for 30 minutes to complete the assessment. 

Troubleshooting:

  • If you lose internet connection during the test, try reconnecting and signing back into your account.

  • If your device loses power, restart your device and sign back into the assessment as soon as possible.
