Introduction

According to Education First (EF), an international education company that has developed the English Proficiency Index (EPI), there is a positive correlation between the EPI and the ease at which business is conducted, the gross national income per capita, and innovation (Tran, 2015). Thus, institutions who interact and collaborate with international partners who speak English as a common language need to ensure that their emissaries fluently interact with their partners. One of the ways in which this can be accomplished is by assessing their English-speaking ability. Assessments are available, but these are time and resource intensive, making them difficult to scale.
